Each month, Bare! brings together storytellers, comedians, sex educators and others to share true tales from their own experiences of sex, desire and romance. With stories as diverse as the people telling them, Bare! opens doors to bedrooms, back seats and dungeons to tell what your mama left out about the birds, bees and in-betweens.
This month, our wheelin’ and dealin’ storytellers cut the deck with tales of wild cards.
Hosted by Jefferson (One Life Take Two, Spill!)
Bill Chambers (Downward Dogs, A Wendy Story)
Kerri Doherty (Geeking Out, Gorgeous Ladies of Comedy)
Lisa Kirchner (The Next Chapter)
Bridget O’Neill (MothSlam winner, The Soundtrack Series)
Musical guest Mindy Raf
. . . and you! You have a story of commitment—or perhaps one for which you should be committed. Put your name in the hat for a chance to bare all on the Bare! stage.
And more! One lucky audience member will win Bare’s sex-toy raffle, courtesy of Babeland.
And still more. Be there to hear a momentous bare-all announcement.
Jefferson is the curator and host of Bare! A sex educator and writer, Jefferson keeps a pseudonymous blog, One Life, Take Two, that details his life as a parent and pervert. He is a storyteller frequently seen on stages around the city and elsewhere, including The Moth, where he is a StorySlam winner. He is also host of the monthly series Spill! True Stories of Queer Sex, Desire and Romance.
Bill Chambers is a writer, comedian, musician and actor living in Queens. After six years of doing stand-up comedy, Bill has slowly segued into long-form writing and storytelling, characterized by acerbic wit and honest yet unreliable narration. Prior to his comedy career,” Bill played in notable punk-hardcore bands Hail Mary and Celebrity Roast, both of which released several albums on various labels and toured extensively throughout America and Europe. Currently, he plays bass in Downward Dogs, which will be self-releasing a debut EP in August 2012. Bill is appearing in the play A Wendy Story at Under St Mark’s Theater through July 28.
As a storyteller, Kerri Doherty has appeared on shows all around New York City, including The Soundtrack Series, The Story Collider and on the Risk! podcast. She’s written for G.L.O.C. (Gorgeous Ladies of Comedy) and Adult Swim’s blog, and her new web series “Geeking Out” will soon be making its season one debut on YouTube’s Official Comedy channel. Recently she tried doing stand-up for the first time and totally bombed.
Lisa Kirchner was once simultaneously the religion editor for a gay and lesbian newspaper, bridal editor for a society rag and a dating columnist for an alt newsweekly. She’s performed at The Moth, The Liar Show and produces her own series, The Next Chapter: Readings and Stories.
A recovering photographer turned writer, performer and storyteller, Bridget O’Neill hails from Cheesesteak County, otherwise known as Philadelphia, or Scrapple, Pennsylvania and is anchored in New York. She is the correspondent for ‘Off the Record’ for The Soundtrack Series. She performs regularly at the Moth and numerous storytelling and comedy venues throughout New York and beyond.
Mindy Raf is a writer, comedienne and musician based in Brooklyn. She has written for CollegeHumor, VH1, TNT’s “Embrace Your Grace,” The Daily Comedy Network, and was a contributor to the My Parents Were Awesome anthology. She was nominated for an ECNY award as “Best Musical Comedy Act” as her popular alter-ego Leibya Rogers, and recently released a full length vinyl comedy album “LeibyaFair Live!” Mindy was thrilled to be a part of the 2011 Women in Comedy Festival, SketchFestNYC and the Bridgetown Comedy Festival where she was named a “stellar surprise” by The Portland Mercury. Mindy’s first novel with Dial Books for Young Readers (Penguin) will be coming out in April 2013.
