Each month, Bare! brings together storytellers, comedians, sex educators and others to share true tales from their own experiences of sex, desire and romance. With stories as diverse as the people telling them, Bare! opens doors to bedrooms, back seats and dungeons to tell what your mama left out about the birds, bees and in-betweens.
This month, prepare for tales of the unexpected from our well-girded guides:
Hosted by Jefferson (One Life Take Two, Spill!)
Dawn J. Fraser (Barbershop Stories)
Robin Gelfenbien (Yum’s the Word)
Nisse Greenberg (Drawn Out Storytelling)
Sharon Spell (The Big Shrink)
Musical guest Ben Lerman (Big Band Hot 100)
. . . and you! You’ve encountered the unexpected. Put your name in the hat for a chance to bare all on the Bare! stage.
And more! One lucky audience member will win Bare!’s sex-toy raffle, courtesy of Babeland.
And still more! We’ll also give away a pair of tickets to the Bare! Birthday Blowout at The Bell House on Sunday, October 28.
Jefferson is the curator and host of Bare! A sex educator and writer, Jefferson keeps a pseudonymous blog, One Life, Take Two, that details his life as a parent and pervert. He is a storyteller frequently seen on stages around the city and elsewhere, including The Moth, where he is a StorySlam winner. He is also host of the monthly series Spill! True Stories of Queer Sex, Desire and Romance.
Dawn J. Fraser is a humorist, storyteller and national speaker from San Jose, California. She is the host of Barbershop Stories, which features storytellers performing true tales in a salon in Brooklyn. Then she chops off their hair. Dawn delivers speeches and workshops about the nature of stories to develop vision, identity and leadership potential, and is a storytelling coach through The Moth’s Community Outreach Program. She loves being both a twin and a Trinidadian.
Robin Gelfenbien is a writer, comedian and storyteller who has written jokes for Rosie O’Donnell and starred in a commercial directed by Spike Lee. She has appeared on Vh1, Sirius Radio and AMC, and her critically-acclaimed solo show, My Salvation Has a First Name (A Wienermobile Journey), premiered at the New York International Fringe Festival. Robin is the creator of the monthly storytelling series, Yum’s the Word, that features her homemade ice cream cakes. She is also the co-host and co-producer of the storytelling/reading series One To Grow On. Robin is currently working on a memoir about her life on the Hot Dog Highway.
Nisse Greenberg is the founder/producer/host of Drawn Out Storytelling and the more attractive half of Rachel and the Elf. His apartment is a mess right now, but it’s getting there.
Ben Lerman is an award-winning comedy musician and songwriter. Ben plays colleges, clubs and festivals as a solo comedy musician. He’s a popular guest on radio and podcast shows like The Frank DeCaro Show on SiriusXM and the Keith & The Girl Podcast, and he has appeared on Logo TV and Here TV. His debut music video was featured on Atom.com. Ben was nominated for an Excellence in Comedy in New York Award for Best Musical Comedy Act in 2011. He won the award for Best Male Comedy Musician at the 2012 New York Funny Songs Festival. In 2012, Ben started Big Band Hot 100, a monthly music party at the Ace Hotel where a twelve-piece band plays covers of the current Billboard Charts with guest singers from all over the New York City performance map, including Jackie Hoffman, Julie Klausner and Xavier.
Ever since comedian and artist Sharon Spell was a little girl growing up in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, it was her dream to one day move to New York City. Her dream has come true and you can tag along for the ride via her podcast, The Sharon Spell Show, and also live as she hosts her big variety show, The Big Shrink at UCBeast. Her portrait-based artwork has appeared in group and solo shows, and she collaborated with friends from The Onion on a cartoon that ran in Paper Mag.
