Each month, Bare! True Stories of Sex, Desire and Romance brings together storytellers, comedians, sex educators and others to share true tales from their own experiences of sex, desire and romance. With stories as diverse as the people telling them, Bare! opens doors to bedrooms, back seats and dungeons to tell what your mama left out about the birds, bees and in-betweens.
Featuring storytellers sharing tales you won’t hear elsewhere with Boston’s sexiest audience.
Join our high-stepping storytellers as they tell of getting (or failing to get) their moves on:
Hosted by Jefferson (One Life Take Two, Spill!)
Chris Connolly (Vagina Monologues)
Samaria “Sam Jay” Johnson (Comedian)
Ken Reid (Ken Reid’s Secret Menu)
Shari VanderWerf (Late Listed)
. . . and you! You’ve got your best moves and your awkward missteps. Put your name in the hat for a chance to bare all on the Bare! stage.
. . . and more! One lucky audience member will win our sex-toy raffle courtesy of Hubba Hubba.
Jefferson is the curator and host of Bare! A sex educator and writer, Jefferson keeps a pseudonymous blog, One Life, Take Two, that details his life as a parent and pervert. He is a storyteller frequently seen on stages around the city and elsewhere, including The Moth, where he is a StorySlam winner. He is also host of the monthly series Spill! True Stories of Queer Sex, Desire and Romance.
Chris Connolly has lived through an Ecquadorian coup d’etat, been a massage therapist to the Bush family and named the octopus that frequents her favorite dive spot off the coast of Israel “Fred.” Chris has been talking about sex as an educator for over a decade working in clinics to universities and everything in between. She recently transitioned from not only teaching about sex, but also laughing about it in her stand up and stories.
Samaria “Sam Jay” Johnson is a Boston native, lesbian and African American who brings her many vantages to bear in a style that is uniquely her own, forging stories and comedy that are witty, relatable and raw. Sam Jay provokes audiences by pushing their thinking while still giving her sets the feel of a barroom conversation with one of your funniest friends. Her familiar personality on and off stage has allowed her to build quite the buzz in and around Boston comedy circles. Opening for power house/veteran acts like Joe Clair (BET), Clint Coley (DL Hugley protégé), and Rob Stapleton (Comedy Central) has not only helped this rising star hone her skills but has also allowed her to branch out up and down the East Coast. Performing at comedic institutions like Gotham NYC and the Comedy Studio in Cambridge MA, Sam Jay is wowing audiences and building her fan base.
Ken Reid’s unique storytelling style, utilizing photos, video clips and comedy, have been featured in four one-man shows performed to sold-out venues. A regular on the comedy festival circuit, Ken was the creator of “Lafta Obscura,” founding member of the comedy troupe The Untrainables and founder of the seminal punk band Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo. The long-time Friday night host at the Comedy Studio, Ken now hosts “Ken Reid’s Secret Menu” there every Thursday. Ken has opened for Todd Barry, Eugene Mirman, Patton Oswalt, Bob Saget, John Oliver, Jen KIrkman and Kevin McDonald, and performed a series of “live talk show” appearances with Jonathan Katz. He was nominated by the Boston Phoenix as Best Comedian in Boston 2010 and 2012.
Shari VanderWerf is a Boston-based writer and stand-up comedian. Her work has appeared on television and in a host of international publications. She is the writer and producer of Late Listed, a series of short films about stand-up comedy and released her first comedy EP in September of 2012. Over 24,000 subscribers enjoy Shari’s daily dose of humor via her Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/shariv67 which earned her the Huffington Post’s recommendation as one of the top funny females to follow.
